Resources

Below you will find resources that are related to the practice and profession of electrology and other various popular topics in an attempt to provide you with the opportunity to access more and relevant information.

This page may be updated if there are consistent inquiries regarding a specific topic or new information is presented.

American Electrology Association / AEA

An outstanding resource for consumers to gather information and research electrologists in their area. It is not required for an electrologist to be a member of the AEA but choosing an electrologist that is shows their dedication to the profession and their own professional growth.

Electrology Association of New Jersey / EANJ

A good resource similar to the AEA (above) and also includes minutes from NJ specific seminars and board meetings.

Division of Consumer Affairs

You may look up your NJ electrologist to verify they have an active electrolysis license.

Topical Numbing

I have absolutely no affiliation with any of these companies. Currently over the counter topical analgesics (lidocaine) are available in 4% in New Jersey. Do not cover the topical numbing with plastic wrap prior to your treatment!

You may ask your doctor if they will prescribe you numbing medication for your electrolysis treatments.

*Read the provided product insert regarding lidocaine toxicity!

Products:

  • It is not recommended to use topical numbing for long periods of time or on a large area of the body.

  • Avoid use near any mucous membranes such as the genitals, buttocks, inside the nose and mouth.

PLEASE read the following article(s) before deciding to use topical lidocaine for pain control.

Schools of Electrology

If you are interested in becoming an electrologist and don’t know where to begin this is a list of electrology schools (in no particular order). It is important that you look up your states requirements for practicing such as if a license is required and how many hours of schooling you need. I can tell you that New Jersey is a licensed state and you are required to have a total of 600 hours, with 200 hours being in theory and 400 hours in practical - you would need to be sure to choose a school that offers 600 hours of training.

Being we are based in New Jersey we are including schools that offer 600 hours here, there may be / are other schools that also offer 600 or less hours as other states may require less. So be sure to do your research!

If you or some you know may be interested in becoming an electrologist and you would like to discuss we encourage you to reach out via email/phone/text as we are happy to answer any questions to the best of our ability.

Hidradentitis Suppurativa / HS

Hidradentitis suppurtativa is a chronic, recurrent skin condition that causes painful abscesses and scarring more commonly in areas of friction like the groin, underarms, buttocks, and breasts. The cause of HS is not known, and is noted to be near hair follicles and in areas with active sweat glands although they may appear in other areas as well. HS is extremely painful during a flare and the same areas usually recur as it is not one cyst that is inflamed and may be removed intact thus stopping the cycle, but it is usually multiple lesions in a channel or tunnel that are inflamed and difficult to remove them all as they are usually small in size and too many in a large area. Risk of infection is high.

These are resources that provide excellent information and support.

The Apilus xCell is manufactured by Dectro International. The xCell sets the bar for hair removal by improving efficiency, speediness, and increasing comfort of each treatment. It has a 27.12MHz radio frequency for peak performance - this frequency is 6 times faster than other epilators available which focuses the energy applied to the base of the hair follicle to produce results in a more timely manner. This fast frequency allows the treatment to be performed so quickly that the sensation is barely noticed. Through offering a more comfortable experience the xCell is the preferred epilator for all body areas and even sensitive clients.

Menopause

AKA “the change”! Not only is it just the end of your menses but it is appropriately named “the change” because it brings with it other changes - commonly hot flashes, night sweats, thinning of your bones, vaginal changes which may be dryness and even pain during sex, low libido, and even facial hair.

You may be eligible to treat your symptoms with hormones, this needs to be discussed with your doctor as you may not be a good candidate or the risks may outweigh the pros or vice versa.

I go here and I also send my family and friends.

I also recommend laser hair reduction treatments here if indicated.
